An adjustable SUP paddle is the best option for many when buying their first paddle board, it’s also a great option for families where many paddlers of varying heights will be using the board, and it is a handy option for experienced paddlers who like to mix up their paddling style or switch between boards. But how do you adjust them…
Adjustable paddles are primarily designed for fitting paddlers of varying heights. A common range is 70-86″ which covers the majority of adult paddlers from 5′ to 6’6″. Factoring into your paddle length is your paddling style, the board you use and the conditions you paddle in. Surfing a small board will have you crouched over for balance and on a thinner board, so closer to the water, and using a shorter shaft. Paddling a 6″ thick race or cruising board on flat water will warrant a longer shaft for the paddling style and thicker board. Many experienced paddlers will choose an adjustable to work in all these situations. More on measuring a paddle for your height and paddling style in our measure your SUP paddle guide.
