Installing the Starboard SUP leash

starboard-sup-lightweight-paddle-board-leashFor 2017 and onwards, all Starboard inflatable stand up paddle boards (except the Surf and River models) include a FREE ankle leash. The leash uses a unique design whereby the strong outer sleeve has a bungee core so that it functions in a similar fashion to a coiled leash whereby it keeps itself from getting under foot, dragging behind you and snagging on things. Similar to an uphaul for a windsurfer or a kite leash for a kite boarder, this is a very clever design that prevents tangles, snags and is extremely lightweight and strong. The free leash comes in 3 lengths, the leash is matched to the board you purchase.

In the short video above, we run through how to attach and remove the leash on the board, and attach and remove the leash from your ankle. Recently there has been a big push to encourage all paddle boarders to use the appropriate leash (and PFD) while paddle boarding. Conditions on the water can change quickly and keeping the board close by via a leash can literally be a life saver. Paddle smart people.
