Red Paddle Co Compact Boards: Ultimate Portability
Red Paddle Co pioneered compact inflatables, and they’ve perfected them with the latest Compact range. These boards fold in half and roll into a backpack that’s half the size of a standard SUP bag—perfect for travel, apartment living, or anyone tight on storage space.
Built using MSL 1000 material—1 kg lighter per square meter than standard MSL—these boards don’t just pack small, they paddle big.
Compact 9’2″: Light and Agile
At 29″ wide and 3.9″ thick, the 9’2″ Compact is ideal for paddlers under 85 kg who want maneuverability for casual cruising or surf. Weighing just 7 kg, it’s incredibly nimble, though less suited for long-distance paddling.
Compact 11′: Versatile Favorite
The 11′ Compact strikes the perfect balance at 32″ wide and 4.7″ thick. It’s great for paddlers up to 110 kg and shines across a variety of conditions, offering real performance in a portable package.

Performance You Can Feel: Stiffness & Deflection
Red tests all boards using a deflection test: suspending the board over 1.5m with a 75 kg weight and measuring flex. For context:
- Sport Plus 14′, Voyager, and Elite: 8 mm deflection – among the stiffest boards available
- Compact 11′: 13 mm (no RSS battens, but impressively stiff)
- Compact 9’2″: 21 mm – expected due to thinner 3.9” profile, but still performs well in practice
What matters most is not just lab stiffness, but real-world feel. Red’s Elite, for example, uses the Forward Flex Control rod to minimize flex during paddling strokes, making it feel stiffer than its deflection score suggests.
