Back in 2016, I selected the Carbon 100 Nylon paddle from Red Paddle Co’s Paddle range as the best value, durable and higher performance paddle. I’ve used it regularly ever since. But, it was time to upgrade so, naturally, I went with the the latest version. The latest version is called the Prime Tough. The Prime signifies the carbon shaft construction and the Tough denotes the nylon blade. Value for money, exceptionally durable, this paddle is ideal for all paddlers. If you’re in shallow waters, need to push off a dock or rocks, the nylon blade is tough as nails. The carbon shaft means the paddle is nice and light, with a comfortable flex and rebound profile for efficient power transfer.

My son is growing out of his kid’s paddle, so this is the next model for him to use as he improves his paddling skills and can appreciate the better quality and lighter construction.

The paddle comes with Red’s paddle leash system. This is a string which connects the blade and mid shaft pieces and only allows insertion at one end. This is a fool proof setup to avoid connecting the paddle sections incorrectly. The handle section features a groove which stops it twisting. This is a great way to avoid twisting the handle while you adjust or use the paddle under heavy load. Locking the handle in straight means you can work the blade harder and twist the shaft to generate pull or to balance on.

As my son grows up, this paddle will suit him well. He is a bit “carefree” with the equipment, so a tough paddle like this is a perfect match.

The Prime Tough is also available in purple.
