How to Set Up Your Starboard Inflatable WindSUP To Go Windsurfing

What’s up everyone! Today we’re going to start a series of video about wind SUP and inflatable SUP windsurfing. Wind SUP, windsurfing SUP, windsurf SUP, whatever you want to call it, this is basically the idea of putting a sail on an SUP board and just go explore the coast. To me this is one of the best ways to explore your coastline and to have fun in the water. It doesn’t matter if it’s 5 knots or 35 knots, you’re going to have a ball and it’s going to be one of the best things you can do in the water.

So today, we’re going to see how you set up such a board and go through all of the steps that you need to check in order to properly rig and prepare a windsurfing SUP in order to have the most fun in the water.

First of all, how do you pump up the board? The very first thing that you should check when you want to pump up an inflatable SUP board, is that you connect the pump to the valve and you check if the valve is closed, so the pin of the valve has to be upwards. The Starboard Tiki Double Action Pump allows you to choose between the double action, which is faster, and when it gets too hard, you can switch to the single action. When you are in a single action mode, that means that you can apply more pressure to the board and can get up to 16 psi, which is what is recommended for these boards.

After you have inflated the board completely, you can start by inserting the fins and the foot straps. There are inserts on the board that you can use to screw the straps in and for the fins, you can use the fin insert which is normal US fin box. Both the fin and centre fin use the same US fin box system.

Now you can take the SUP bag and open it up to find all the pieces and parts that you need to rig the windsurf equipment. So looking at what’s inside of this pack, first of all you will see a four piece mast. This four piece mast is really convenient as it falls very nicely into into a bag. Also it’s very easy to rig because each piece is numbered, allowing you to put it together correctly, quickly and easily. The boom also comes in four pieces and you will see how it has two extensions, you just simply connect the foam part with the real part of the boom. This boom is the same as a regular boom when it’s mounted and will perfectly fit to the windsurf concept while being portable and very easy to store.

Now you can unroll the sail and rig the sail the same as a regular windsurf sail. So what you need now is to apply some down haul and after that, you just connect the boom to the mast and then apply some outhaul tension in order to trim the sail.

Now you are good to go and you can start exploring the coastline with your wind SUP board and have fun with your whole family.
