Getting your SUP paddle the right length is a bit of a black art. Everyone has their own theory about how long it should be.
It should be a comfortable reach over your head. It should be 6″ taller than you are. It should be 10″ taller than you are. Your eyes should be at the blade shoulder when it’s upside in front of you…
Everyone’s body is different so there are several ways to measure a paddle but it really comes down to what is comfortable for you and how you ride. Do you ride a nice thick 6″ inflatable race board on flat water, do you use a 4″ thick low volume wave slayer?
We’ve just added a SUP paddle length guide to our site for people to use as a starting point when they are new to the sport, change board or SUP location. Check it out and we hope to hear back from you about how accurate it is.
