This week Fanatic bring us a great video on how to stand up paddle board (SUP) in windy conditions. They cover awareness of the conditions and some techniques for paddling in wind.
Paddle boarding can be glorious fun, but weather can change quickly. It is wise to be aware of the current conditions, forecasted conditions, telling a friend where you’ll be and when you’ll be back.
Aside from learning about wind and how to handle it while paddling, a leash is the most important safety feature as it keeps you attached to a giant floating device. If you get knocked off in windy conditions, a board can be blown away from you in seconds and you’ll never catch it, not even Michael Phelps would catch it! Read more about choosing the right leash for you and your board.
A close second for most important safety feature is a life jacket. While not always required in your local area, life jackets are an obvious safety choice no matter how strong a swimmer you are. Read more on life jackets and PFDs for stand up paddle boarding.
